CLC OPHTHALMOMETER MEASURING TECHNIQUE Focusing the Eyepiece Before taking a measurement the eyepiece should be focused. Place the occluder before the objective and then looking through the eyepiece the crosshair will be seen. The eyepiece should be rotated counter-clockwise until the crosshair blurs, then rotated back clockwise until the crosshair just comes into focus. If different clinicans use the ophthalmometer this should be done each time it is used. If the same person uses it all the time the focus only needs checked periodically. If only one practitioner uses the instrument then a set screw can be tightened to prevent the eyepiece from being accidently turned and defocused.
